You might think that, having been trained as a pianist, I would be most comfortable and engaged writing keyboard music. Truth be told, however, I find the tone of the piano too easily given to percussive explosion; and the naturally-imposed limits on registration dictated by the ranges of the fingers frequently make a contrapuntalist feel as though composing in handcuffs. I am generally up for a challenge, however.
As has been my habit of late, the tonal centers in this piece follow the row itself: (1) C-E-G, and (2) A-G#-F#-D-B-A#-C#-D#-F.
